Ahavath Achim Synagogue

Look back some 120 years ago and you find a determined small group of men — less than twenty, who formed Congregation Ahavath Achim (Congregation of Brotherly Love) in a small room on Gilmer Street — in the vicinity of the current Atlanta baseball stadium. And, indeed, that was a winning team, for the congregation continued to flourish and outgrow its physical homes.

In answer to our growing needs, the cornerstone to our present building was laid on June 1, 1958. Our congregation has been blessed with leading Rabbis, outstanding Cantors, and dedicated teachers, staff and employees. The success of our congregation is due, in large part, to the vision and dedication of AA’s founding leaders and congregants, many of whose families continue to consider AA their spiritual home. The founders of AA left their children and us a strong, vibrant congregation. It is now up to us to pass this legacy on to our children and grandchildren. We can do that with “Create a Jewish Legacy.”

Ahavath Achim’s Endowment fund is vital as it provides a permanent source of income for both current and ongoing needs for our congregation. AA’s Endowment creates an environment that allows us to ensure our ongoing stability. “Create a Jewish Legacy” will allow our Endowment to grow into the financial foundation that Ahavath Achim can stand upon for decades to come. In addition, it will enable our Endowment to foster the future development of our congregation and its creative responses to the changing needs of our congregants.

Your membership in “Create a Jewish Legacy” will contribute to our Endowment, and will:

• Relieve constant increases in membership dues.
• Expand our innovative educational programs further.
• Ensure that AA can continue to recruit and maintain qualified staff.
• Accelerate all aspects of our Strategic Plan.
• Allow us to increase our outreach effort by keeping our dues structure attractive to those seeking Synagogue affiliation.
• Provide both vitality and financial stability for future generations of Jews.

Create a Jewish Legacy is an initiative of the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta to build a strong, vibrant community, now and in the future with bequests for permanent endowments. As the central umbrella organization for Jewish Atlanta, it makes sense for Federation to lead this program on behalf of the entire community.
